While the conversation from Fringe is still ongoing, Art Twenty One presents another solo exhibition “Traces” by  Gerard Quenum on May 2nd.

Gerard Quenum is a Porto-Novo based Benin artist who works with different artistic medium like painting, drawing, and sculpture. According to Art Twenty One gallery, “his sculptural works incorporate recovered materials such as toy dolls and scraps of wood, all referencing ambiguous spiritual iconography and ritual associations, traditional methodology and contemporary references. His paintings depict crudely drawn figures that protrude on a blank picture plane, floating as ghostly and unidentifiable presences.”

The exhibition opens with a reception at 6pm on Saturday May 2nd at Art Twenty One, Eko Hotel & Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos.

Traces will run from May 5th to June 11th, 2015.

Art Twenty One will also present works by Gerard Quenum and Olu Amoda at the inaugural edition of 1:54 Contemporary African Art Fair in New York from 15th – 17th May, 2015.
