CCA, Lagos is pleased to invite you to a discussion on Sunday 13th December at 3pm on what has been an incredible year for Nigerian art, artists and art workers locally and internationally.

Over the past few years the Nigerian art sector has become increasing visible internationally. The sector is not only present abroad but it also engages locally with the international. Some of the incredible achievements recorded this year includes the appointment of Okwui Enwezor as the Artistic Director (and First African) of the 56th Venice Biennale, the inclusion of sound artist Emeka Ogboh and graphic artist/ illustrator Karo Akpokiere in the international biennale, the Lagos launch of the scholarly publication Post Colonial Modernism by Chika Okeke-Agulu, the 6th edition of the LagosPhoto Festival with its accompanying publication documenting 5 years of activities, the 13th Jogja Biennale focusing on Nigeria as a guest country co-curated by Jude Anogwih involving over 11 Nigerian artists and the appointment of Bisi Silva as the artistic director (and the first based in Africa) of the 10th Bamako Encounters, African Biennale of Photography in Mali after a 4 year hiatus due to the crisis in Mali in 2012.

These are only a few of the activities as many other initiatives – exhibitions, talks, residencies etc have taken place. As we round off the year CCA, Lagos is pleased to provide a platform, a discursive space in which – as a community – we can share our experiences, exchange information, highlight our strengths, evaluate our weaknesses and plan the continued development and long term sustainability of our sector as we anticipate another vibrant year in 2016.
