Renegade Theatre in its usual style of addressing social and political issues in Nigeria present a new stage production on the Chibok abduction story titled “The Chibok Girls: Our Story” at the Agip Recital Hall of the Muson Centre from Friday 18th December to Sunday 20th December.
One year and nine months after 276 female students were kidnapped from the Government Secondary School in the town of Chibok in Borno State in Nigeria, the world still hopes for their return. Though the campaign #Bringbackourgirls has enjoyed too little attention in the past year, the horror of the tragedy remains a subject of focus for artists and performers in and outside Nigeria.
The stage production is partly based on the curious developments preceding the kidnapping of the girls, the event itself and its aftermath. It will actually feature three of the girls that escaped the infamous abduction. They will play alongside actors like Kehinde Bankole, Leelee Byoma, Meg Otanwa, Rotimi Fakunle and Joshua Alabi.
The Chibok Girls: Our Story is written and directed by Wole Oguntokun.
