Sonic Connections – #TSASummerPlaylist | By Kojo Abudu

#TSASummerPlaylist connects different cultural spheres across time and genres. #TSASummerPlaylist. Feel-good music from Fela to D'Angelo.

Traversing Nigeria and the US and connecting the twentieth and twenty-first centuries, this summer playlist gives aural form to the black diaspora, past and present. Although we seek sonic connections between these cultural spheres, periods and the musical genres generated, we also embrace intermittent ruptures and dissonances. So whether you’re in the mood for ‘alté’ Afro-fusion, 60s jazz, 70s Afrobeat, 2000s R&B or 90s hip-hop, hope these bright, smooth, rhythmic – and at times tropical – sounds become fine atmospheric complements to your summer.
