Over the last decade, Arthouse Contemporary has set auction records of artists such as Ben Enwonwu, Bruce Onobrakpeya, and many others and has sold over two billion naira worth of art from auctioning 1,750 lots. These records among other factors have contributed to the current interest in Nigerian art.
On June 4, 2018, Arthouse will mark its 10th anniversary and present its 20th edition of Modern and Contemporary Art Auction. Featured in this edition are works by modern masters Ben Enwonwu, Bruce Onobrakpeya, Ben Osawe, Kolade Oshinowo, Ablade Glover, Chuks Anyanwu, David Dale, Ato Delaquis, Marvua Lessor, Uzo Egonu, Obi Enkwenchi, Okpu Eze, Lamidi Fakeye, Amos Odion, Muraina Oyelami, Jacob Afolabi, and Susanne Wenger.
Leading contemporary artists in the auction include El Anatsui, Peju Alatise, Rom Isichei, Sokari Douglas Camp CBE, Ndidi Emefiele, Lemi Ghariokwu, Alimi Adewale, Duke Asidere, Chike Obeagu, Uche Okpa-Iroha, Oluseye/Lakin Ogunbanwo, Ade Adekola and Michael Soi.
In addition to the lots above, over twenty artworks from the collection of an undisclosed art collector will be sold at the auction. Artists from the collection include Ben Enwonwu, Tayo Adenaike, David Dale, Okpu Eze, Abayomi Barber, Jimoh Buraimoh, Solomon Wangboje, Abiodun Olaku, Dele Jegede, Ben Osawe, Kolade Oshinowo, Bruce Onobrakpeya, Sam Ovraiti, Twins Seven-Seven, Simon Okeke, Obiora Udechukwu and Ben Osaghae.
There will also be charity lots from Gerald Chukwuma, Lemi Ghariokwu, Reuben Ugbine, and Uchay Joel Chima, in support of Arthouse Foundation, the non-profit artist residency programme based in Lagos, Nigeria
The auction artworks are available for viewing on Saturday, June 2, 11 AM-6 PM; Sunday, June 3, 12-6 PM; and on Monday, June 4, 10 AM-1 PM. Bidding starts at 6 PM on Monday, June 4.
