Emerging visual artists living and working in Nigeria are invited to apply for the 2021 edition of the Access Bank ART X Prize. The initiative, which has been running since the inaugural edition of the ART X Lagos art fair, supports artists who have shown commitment and consistency in their artistic practice.
Applications for this edition will be assessed by a distinguished jury panel consisting of ruby onyinyechi amanze, Dexter Wimberly, Ndidi Dike, Ugoma Adegoke, Marie-Ann Yemsi, and Alessio Antoniolli. Wura-Natasha Ogunji, renowned artist and performer, is this year’s curator and will lead the programming for the finalists at the Finalists’ Forum.
Previous winners of the prize include Etinosa Yvonne (2019), Bolatito Aderemi-Ibitola (2018), Habeeb Andu (2017) and Patrick Akpojotor (2016).
The winner of this year’s edition will receive the cash prize of N1.8 million, a solo presentation at the next edition of ART X Lagos, a three-month residency at Gasworks, London and ongoing mentorship and support.
Applicants are required to submit their portfolio of works and their artist statements to be considered for the Prize.
Eligibility Requirements
- Applicants should have at least three years of artistic practice
- Applicants must currently not be enrolled as a student
- Applicants must be a Nigerian citizen, living and working in Nigeria
